The Marina district's Palace of Fine Arts was built in 1915 for the Panama-Pacific Exposition and was designed by Bernard Meybeck. Since it was on Presidio property, it avoided destruction when the exposition ended. Designed to last for one year, the buildings were finally restored in the 1960's.
